A RESOLUTION
Honoring the life and contributions of John Patrick Stanton,
humanitarian, activist and founder of the prolife movement in
this Commonwealth, who died on January 31, 2014, at 86 years
of age.
WHEREAS, John Patrick Stanton, the son of Dennis and Agnes
Walsh Stanton, was born in Jenkintown on July 7, 1927; and
WHEREAS, Beginning in 1969, Mr. Stanton became involved in
the prolife movement in this Commonwealth; and
WHEREAS, In 1972, Mr. Stanton collaborated with the General
Assembly to secure the passage of legislation to strengthen
State laws relating to abortion; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Stanton worked tirelessly and effectively to
organize residents of this Commonwealth to advance the prolife
movement in which he so genuinely believed; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Stanton was instrumental in the establishment of
a Statewide Choose Life license plate program in 2005; and
WHEREAS, This program has raised tens of thousands of dollars

for crisis pregnancy centers in this Commonwealth; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Stanton manifested leadership by faithful
example, sometimes at great personal cost; and
WHEREAS, For many years, Mr. Stanton prayed and counseled at
various facilities in the Philadelphia area; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Stanton and his wife, by providing housing at
their home in Jenkintown, personally assisted pregnant women;
and
WHEREAS, Mr. Stanton organized and led many efforts to
provide care and resources to pregnant women in crisis; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Stanton's Catholic faith and Irish heritage
provided the motivation for his leadership; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Stanton earned a master's degree in theology at
St. Charles Seminary and shared his teachings of St. Patrick's
life and legacy; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Stanton represented the finest qualities of
mankind, having demonstrated exceptional abilities in the
interests of business, social justice and community involvement;
and
WHEREAS, Mr. Stanton was a loving and devoted husband to
Harriet Althouse Stanton, as well as a loving and devoted
father, grandfather and great-grandfather to their 12 children,
46 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren; therefore be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives honor the life
and contributions of John Patrick Stanton, humanitarian,
activist and founder of the prolife movement in this
Commonwealth, who died on January 31, 2014, at 86 years of age;
and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this resolution be transmitted to
the family of John Patrick Stanton.
