A RESOLUTION
Designating February 6, 2015, as "Keith Valley Challenge Day" in
Pennsylvania.
WHEREAS, Keith Valley Middle School is in the Hatboro-Horsham
School District, located in Montgomery County; and
WHEREAS, In 1977, Keith Valley Middle School held a floor
hockey marathon to honor the memory of Billy Whitehead, an 8th
grade student who passed away due to a rare congenital heart
defect; and
WHEREAS, In Billy's memory, the staff and 8th graders at the
school began holding the Billy Whitehead Marathon and pledged to
raise money on a yearly basis for St. Christopher's Hospital for
Children, located in Philadelphia. The marathon was renamed The
Keith Valley Challenge in 1981 and students began to donate
funds raised to additional charities; and
WHEREAS, The Keith Valley Challenge is a 17-hour nonstop
floor hockey marathon. Last year's Challenge raised $58,696.71,

and over the last 38 years, Keith Valley students have raised
and donated over $890,000 to 14 charities, such as the American
Cancer Society, the American Heart Association, the ALS
Foundation and the Ronald McDonald House; and
WHEREAS, The 39th Annual Keith Valley Challenge is scheduled
to kick-off on Friday, February 6, 2015. This year, students are
raising money for the Make-A-Wish Foundation; therefore be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives designate
February 6, 2015, as "Keith Valley Challenge Day" in
Pennsylvania.
