A RESOLUTION

 

1Designating the month of October 2014 as "Attention Deficit
2Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) Awareness Month" in
3Pennsylvania.

4WHEREAS, More than six million people, or 11% of school-age
5children and 4% of adults, in the United States have been
6diagnosed with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD);
7and

8WHEREAS, ADHD is one of the most common childhood disorders
9and can continue through adolescence and adulthood; and

10WHEREAS, The average age of onset is seven years of age and
11boys are four times more at risk than girls; and

12WHEREAS, ADHD is a neurobehavioral disorder and the primary
13symptoms include inattention, impulsiveness and hyperactivity;
14and

15WHEREAS, ADHD causes challenges in how well children perform
16in school, in their ability to make and keep friends and in how
17they function in society; and

1WHEREAS, ADHD is a nondiscriminatory disorder affecting
2people of every age, gender, race, IQ, religion and
3socioeconomic background; therefore be it

4RESOLVED, That the Senate designate the month of October 2014
5as "Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder Awareness Month" in
6Pennsylvania.
