A RESOLUTION

 

1Recognizing the month of September 2014 as "Senior Center Month"
2in Pennsylvania.

3WHEREAS, Older Americans are significant members of our
4society who invest their wisdom and experience to enrich the
5lives of younger generations; and

6WHEREAS, Senior centers have acted as catalysts for
7mobilizing the creativity, energy, vitality and commitment of
8the older residents of this Commonwealth; and

9WHEREAS, Through the wide array of services, programs and
10activities, senior centers empower older citizens of this
11Commonwealth to contribute to their own health and well-being
12and the health and well-being of their fellow citizens of all
13ages; and

14WHEREAS, Senior centers in this Commonwealth affirm the
15dignity, self-worth and independence of older persons by
16facilitating their decisions and actions, tapping their
17experiences, skills and knowledge and enabling their continued

1contributions to the community; and

2WHEREAS, Research shows that older adults who participate in
3senior center programs can learn to manage and delay the onset
4of chronic disease and experience measurable improvements in
5their physical, social, spiritual, emotional, mental and
6economic well-being; therefore be it

7RESOLVED, That the Senate recognize the month of September
82014 as "Senior Center Month" in Pennsylvania and call upon all
9citizens to recognize the special contributions of the senior
10center participants and the special efforts of the staff and
11volunteers who work every day to enhance the well-being of the
12older citizens of our community.
