A RESOLUTION

 

1Recognizing June 11, 2014, as "Turkish-American Cultural Day" in
2Pennsylvania.

3WHEREAS, The Republic of Turkey has the world's 15th largest
4economy and Europe's sixth largest economy, is a valued trading
5partner with the Commonwealth and is to be commended on its
6contributions to the global economy and its diplomatic
7initiatives; and

8WHEREAS, During the Great Hunger, commonly known as the Irish
9Potato Famine of the 1800s, the Ottoman Empire, now modern-day
10Turkey, helped the Irish people by sending shipments of food and
11supplies; and

12WHEREAS, Turkey continues to exhibit goodwill and build
13bridges internationally, including with the United States,
14specifically with the Commonwealth; and

15WHEREAS, The Commonwealth and the Republic of Turkey have
16enjoyed a strong, vibrant and mutually beneficial economic
17relationship with the prospect of further growth; and

1WHEREAS, It is in the best interest of the Commonwealth to
2further cultivate the good relationship between Pennsylvania and
3the Republic of Turkey; and

4WHEREAS, It is fitting to recognize the contributions of our
5nation's allies and the value of maintaining beneficial
6relationships with those allies; therefore be it

7RESOLVED, That the Senate recognize June 11, 2014, as
8"Turkish-American Cultural Day" in Pennsylvania; and be it
9further

10RESOLVED, That the Senate recognize the longstanding
11Pennsylvania-Republic of Turkey relations, build upon time-
12honored friendships and promote the cultural, educational,
13academic, political and economic relations between Pennsylvania
14and Turkey; and be it further

15RESOLVED, That a copy of this resolution be transmitted to
16the Turkish Cultural Center of Pennsylvania, 274 W Main St.,
17Leola, PA 17540.
