A RESOLUTION
1Commemorating the 100th anniversary of the Dauphin County
2Library System.
3WHEREAS, In her will, Sara Haldeman Haly provided the funds
4needed to establish a public library for Harrisburg, Dauphin
5County; and
6WHEREAS, Sara Haldeman Haly's former garden on Walnut Street
7and Front Street has been converted into the Harrisburg Public
8Library; and
9WHEREAS, On January 1, 1914, the Harrisburg Public Library
10opened its doors and has been in continuous operation as a
11library ever since; and
12WHEREAS, On September 16, 2009, the Harrisburg Public Library
13was rededicated as McCormick Riverfront Library; and
14WHEREAS, The McCormick Riverfront Library and seven other
15libraries now comprise the Dauphin County Library System; and
16WHEREAS, The Dauphin County Library System strengthens the
17community by promoting literacy and providing resources and
1services for information, education and recreation; and
2WHEREAS, The Dauphin County Library System is the bridge that
3unites available, affordable and accessible information with a
4widely diverse community that seeks opportunities to combine
5traditional library services with new technologies; and
6WHEREAS, The Dauphin County Library System provides public
7library services to the residents of Dauphin County; and
8WHEREAS, On April 12, 2014, the Dauphin County Library System
9celebrates its 100th anniversary; therefore be it
10RESOLVED, That the Senate commemorate the Dauphin County
11Library System for its 100-year history of continuous public
12library services.
