A RESOLUTION
1Designating the week of May 19 through 25, 2013, as "Emergency
2Medical Services Week" and May 22, 2013, as "Emergency
3Medical Services for Children (EMSC) Day," with the theme,
4"EMS: One Mission, One Team," in Pennsylvania.
5WHEREAS, Emergency medical services are a vital public
6service; and
7WHEREAS, The members of emergency medical services teams are
8ready to provide lifesaving care to those in need 24 hours a
9day, seven days a week; and
10WHEREAS, Access to quality emergency care dramatically
11improves the survival and recovery rate of those who experience
12sudden illness or injury; and
13WHEREAS, The emergency medical services system consists of
14emergency physicians, emergency nurses, rescue personnel,
15emergency medical technicians, paramedics, prehospital nurses,
16air medical personnel, emergency responders, first responders,
17ambulance attendants, emergency vehicle operators, firefighters,
1police officers, educators, dispatchers, administrators and
2others; and
3WHEREAS, The members of emergency medical services teams,
4whether career or volunteer, engage in thousands of hours of
5specialized training and continuing education to enhance their
6lifesaving skills; and
7WHEREAS, The needs of children are different from the needs
8of adults in medical emergencies; and
9WHEREAS, The Emergency Medical Services for Children Program
10(EMSC) promotes the high-level emergency care given by emergency
11medical services providers with pediatric emergency skills; and
12WHEREAS, EMSC assists in the implementation of training for
13use of advanced technical equipment and services in preparation
14to save the life of a child; and
15WHEREAS, Emergency medical services providers are unceasingly
16prepared to respond to children who access the system and return
17them to an optimum level of health; and
18WHEREAS, EMSC works with physicians, nurses, social workers,
19psychologists, rescue personnel, emergency medical technicians,
20paramedics, prehospital nurses, air medical personnel, emergency
21medical responders, emergency vehicle operators, firefighters,
22police officers, educators, dispatchers, administrators and
23others to identify and address the issues surrounding the
24provision of optimal pediatric care; and
25WHEREAS, EMSC assists in the development of training programs
26and guidelines for emergency care providers so that children
27with special health care needs receive timely and appropriate
28care;
29WHEREAS, It is appropriate to recognize the value and the
30accomplishments of emergency medical services providers and EMSC
1by designating "Emergency Medical Services Week" and "Emergency
2Medical Services for Children (EMSC) Day"; therefore be it
3RESOLVED, That the Senate designate the week of May 19
4through 25, 2013, as "Emergency Medical Services Week" and May
522, 2013, as "Emergency Medical Services for Children (EMSC)
6Day," with the theme, "EMS: One Mission, One Team," in
7Pennsylvania and encourage the community to observe this week
8with appropriate programs, ceremonies and activities.
