A RESOLUTION

 

1Recognizing March 2013 as "Eye Donor Month" in Pennsylvania.

2WHEREAS, Eye donation allows for restoration of sight to
3recipients whose vision has been affected by injury, disease or
4infection; and

5WHEREAS, Corneal transplant is one of the most frequently
6performed human transplant procedures; and

7WHEREAS, Since 1961, more than 700,000 corneal transplants
8have been performed in the United States, restoring sight to
9men, women and children ranging from nine days to 103 years of
10age; and

11WHEREAS, Corneal transplant operations have a national
12success rate of 90%; and

13WHEREAS, Eye donation follows the same process as organ
14donation, and there are no restrictions on who may donate; and

15WHEREAS, There is no substitute for human cornea tissue, and
16the transplant process depends upon the selfless act of eye
17donation; therefore be it

18RESOLVED, That the Senate recognize March 2013 as "Eye Donor

1Month" in Pennsylvania.
