A RESOLUTION

 

1Designating the month of March 2013 as "Music in Our Schools
2Month" in Pennsylvania.

3WHEREAS, The study of music is basic to a complete education,
4nurtures many positive qualities in children and promotes skills
5within the art form itself, such as the reading and
6comprehension of musical language and theory, performance and
7even music generation; and

8WHEREAS, Studies as to the impact of music on student
9performance show that music improves language and cognitive
10skills, problem solving abilities, teamwork, creative thinking
11and cultural understanding; and

12WHEREAS, The work done by music educators in our schools is
13vitally important to the social and academic well-being of
14Pennsylvania's students; and

15WHEREAS, Music educators in this Commonwealth are committed
16to maintaining and improving school music programs for all

1students, regardless of their abilities or socioeconomic status,
2in fostering and nurturing a robust musical education; and

3WHEREAS, It is fitting and proper for the Commonwealth to
4recognize and commend the Pennsylvania Music Educators
5Association for their dedication to Pennsylvania's students as
6well as their concern for and efforts to enhance the quality of
7music education in our schools; therefore be it

8RESOLVED, That the Senate designate the month of March 2013
9as "Music in Our Schools Month" in Pennsylvania and encourage
10teachers, students and all citizens of this Commonwealth to
11participate in music education opportunities.
