A RESOLUTION

 

1Honoring former Senator H. Craig Lewis, distinguished attorney,
2legislator and business executive, and mourning his death.

3WHEREAS, Senator Lewis represented the Sixth Senatorial
4District, comprising parts of Bucks County and Philadelphia,
5from 1975 through 1994; and

6WHEREAS, Senator Lewis helped to reform the municipal pension
7system and contributed to the State budget process as chair of
8the Judiciary, Local Government and Ethics Committees and
9minority leader of the Appropriations Committee; and

10WHEREAS, Senator Lewis was the democratic chairman of the
11Senate Impeachment Trial Committee in 1994, the first
12impeachment trial in this Commonwealth since 1811; and

13WHEREAS, Senator Lewis was a member of the Bar of the Supreme
14Court of Pennsylvania, the Pennsylvania Intergovernmental

1Council and the Advisory Committee for Guidance Service; and

2WHEREAS, Following his tenure with the Senate, Senator Lewis
3was a partner with Dechert Price & Rhoads; and

4WHEREAS, In 1997, Senator Lewis became associated with the
5railroad industry as a vice president of corporate affairs for
6Norfolk Southern Corporation; and

7WHEREAS, Senator Lewis contributed his energies and talents
8as a director of ImageMax, Inc., the Philadelphia Zoo, Aria
9Health System, Philadelphia Belt Line Railroad, Delaware Otsego
10Corporation and the Andalusia Foundation; and

11WHEREAS, Senator Lewis formerly chaired the Board of Managers
12of the Philadelphia Foundation, which in 2005 established the H.
13Craig Lewis Leadership and Governance Award; and

14WHEREAS, A Hazleton native, Senator Lewis earned a bachelor's
15degree in history from Millersville State College and a juris
16doctorate from Temple University School of Law and attended
17University of Nebraska graduate school; and

18WHEREAS, Senator Lewis died January 13, 2013, in the British
19Virgin Islands at 68 years of age; and

20WHEREAS, Senator Lewis' wife, Dianne Semingson; his son, Rob;
21his daughter, Janet; and a grandson survive him; therefore be it

22RESOLVED, That the Senate honor former Senator H. Craig
23Lewis, distinguished attorney, legislator and business
24executive, and mourn his death.
