A RESOLUTION

 

1Recognizing the month of September 2014 as "Senior Center Month"
2in Pennsylvania.

3WHEREAS, Older Americans are significant members of our
4society who invest their wisdom and experience to enrich the
5lives of younger generations; and

6WHEREAS, Nearly 11,000 senior centers nationally serve one
7million older adults every day in offering a rich and engaging
8array of opportunities to help older adults age successfully;
9and

10WHEREAS, Many senior centers operate in this Commonwealth and
11have acted as catalysts for mobilizing the creativity, energy,
12vitality and commitment of the older residents of this
13Commonwealth; and

14WHEREAS, Through the wide array of services, programs and

1activities, senior centers empower older citizens of this
2Commonwealth to contribute to their own health and well-being
3and the health and well-being of their fellow citizens of all
4ages; and

5WHEREAS, Senior centers in this Commonwealth affirm the
6dignity, self-worth and independence of older persons by
7facilitating their decisions and actions, tapping their
8experiences, skills and knowledge and enabling senior citizens'
9continued contributions to the community; and

10WHEREAS, The National Council of Aging annually recognizes
11September as National Senior Center Month and has established
12"Senior Centers: Experts at Living Well" as the theme for this
13year's observance; therefore be it

14RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives recognize the
15month of September 2014 as "Senior Center Month" in Pennsylvania
16and call upon all citizens and public officials to recognize the
17special contributions of the senior center participants and the
18special efforts of the staff and volunteers who work every day
19to enhance the well-being of the older citizens of our
20community.
