A RESOLUTION

 

1Recognizing the month of September 2014 as "National Recovery
2Month" in Pennsylvania.

3WHEREAS, Behavioral health is an essential part of overall
4wellness; and

5WHEREAS, Prevention and treatment of mental illness and
6substance abuse are effective; and

7WHEREAS, Prevention and treatment are essential to achieving
8physical and emotional health; and

9WHEREAS, Through prevention and treatment, people recover in
10this Commonwealth and around the nation; and

11WHEREAS, The House of Representatives encourages relatives
12and friends of affected individuals to implement preventive
13measures, recognize the signs of a problem and guide those in
14need to appropriate treatment and recovery support services; and

1WHEREAS, According to the 2012 National Survey on Drug Use
2and Health, 2.5 million people 12 years of age or older received
3specialty treatment for substance abuse; and

4WHEREAS, According to the survey, 34.1 million adults 18
5years of age or older received mental health services; and

6WHEREAS, The serious nature of this public health problem
7demands continued outreach to the millions more who need help;
8and

9WHEREAS, The United States Department of Health and Human
10Services, the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services
11Administration, the White House Office of National Drug Control
12Policy and the Commonwealth invite all residents of our
13communities to participate in National Recovery Month
14observances; therefore be it

15RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives recognize the
16month of September 2014 as "National Recovery Month" in
17Pennsylvania and urge support for this observance.
