A RESOLUTION
1Honoring female veterans who heroically served our country as
2members of the armed forces.
3WHEREAS, Women have served in our armed forces since the
4Civil War; and
5WHEREAS, An estimated 435,000 women served in World War I and
6World War II; and
7WHEREAS, While the total veteran population is decreasing,
8the number of female veterans continues to increase; and
9WHEREAS, Between 1990 and 2008, the women veteran population
10increased from 1,200,000 to 1,800,000; and
11WHEREAS, As of September of 2010, the total veteran
12population in the United States and Puerto Rico was
13approximately 23,000,000, with women numbering 1,840,380; and
1WHEREAS, It is projected that women veterans will represent
2more than 10% of the total veteran population by 2020; and
3WHEREAS, According to the United States Department of
4Veterans Affairs, there are in excess of 79,000 female veterans
5in Pennsylvania; therefore be it
6RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives honor female
7veterans who heroically served our country as members of the
8armed forces.
