A RESOLUTION
1Congratulating the Lycoming County Veterans Parade Committee for
2organizing the Lycoming County Veterans Parade on November 9,
32013, which will be held in honor of the upcoming National
4Veterans Day on November 11, 2013.
5WHEREAS, In 1918, on the eleventh hour, of the eleventh day,
6in the eleventh month, the world rejoiced and celebrated
7because, after four years of bitter war, an armistice was signed
8that declared the "war to end all wars" over and Armistice Day
9was thereby established; and
10WHEREAS, On Armistice Day, soldiers who survived the war
11would march in parades through their hometowns, and politicians,
12public officials and veteran officers would give speeches and
13hold ceremonies of thanks for the peace the veterans had won;
14and
15WHEREAS, In 1954, Armistice Day was renamed Veterans Day and
16continued to be celebrated on November 11th each year; and
17WHEREAS, To this day, Americans still give thanks to veterans
1for their service on Veterans Day with ceremonies and speeches,
2and at 11:00 a.m. on November 11th, many Americans observe a
3moment of silence in remembrance of those who fought and for
4those who gave their lives to preserve the freedoms we now
5enjoy; and
6WHEREAS, In honor of the courageous men and women who have
7donned the uniform of our armed forces and built a noble
8tradition of faithful and dedicated service to our nation and to
9this Commonwealth, the Lycoming County Veterans Committee will
10host a Veterans Day parade on November 9, 2013, at 2:00 p.m.;
11and
12WHEREAS, The honorary parade will begin at Park Place East on
13West Fourth Street and continue to Court Street in Williamsburg,
14Pennsylvania; and
15WHEREAS, It is fitting that all Pennsylvanians honor
16America's military veterans, including Pennsylvania's more than
17one million living veterans, through whose service and sacrifice
18we today enjoy freedom and liberty; therefore be it
19RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives congratulate the
20Lycoming County Veterans Parade Committee for their efforts in
21organizing the veterans parade for the first time in more than
22ten years; and be it further
23RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives encourage
24communities to participate in Veterans Day ceremonies across
25this Commonwealth in recognition of those who served the United
26States and this Commonwealth in the past and those who continue
27to serve our country in its current time of need.
