A RESOLUTION

 

1Designating the week of October 20 through 26, 2013, as "Pro
2Bono Week" in Pennsylvania.

3WHEREAS, Pennsylvania attorneys provide legal assistance at
4low or no cost, commonly referred to as "pro bono" work, to more
5than 100,000 low-income clients each year, including 10,000
6mortgage foreclosure cases and 12,000 domestic violence cases;
7and

8WHEREAS, The fifth annual National Pro Bono Week will be
9celebrated at the end of October 2013; and

10WHEREAS, National Pro Bono Week is an opportunity to
11highlight the differences attorneys make in their communities,
12to recruit and train additional pro bono volunteers and to
13acknowledge the partnerships that form the basis for many of the
14private bar's most successful pro bono efforts; and

15WHEREAS, The Pennsylvania Bar Association is once again

1joining with the American Bar Association to sponsor this
2October's annual National Pro Bono Week celebrations; and

3WHEREAS, National Pro Bono Week provides numerous
4opportunities to highlight the good work Pennsylvania attorneys
5do for the most needy among us; and

6WHEREAS, Pennsylvania is a leader in celebrating National Pro
7Bono Week with what have become annual events at many sites
8across this Commonwealth, with new events being planned for this
9year; therefore be it

10RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives designate the
11week of October 20 through 26, 2013, as "Pro Bono Week" in
12Pennsylvania.
