A RESOLUTION

 

1Recognizing September 24, 2013, as "National Voter Registration
2Day" in Pennsylvania and encouraging Pennsylvanians to
3register and vote.

4WHEREAS, In 2008, 6 million Americans did not vote because
5they missed a registration deadline or did not know how to
6register; and

7WHEREAS, A Pennsylvania resident who is a citizen of the
8United States for at least one month before the next primary,
9special, municipal or general election, who is a resident of the
10election district where the Pennsylvanian wants to register and
11vote for at least 30 days before the next primary, special,
12municipal or general election and is at least 18 years of age on
13the day of the next primary, special, municipal or general
14election may register and vote in Pennsylvania; and

15WHEREAS, A Pennsylvanian may register to vote in person at a
16county voter registration commission office, by mail
17application, at a PennDOT office while acquiring a driver's

1license and other State government offices, including State
2offices that provide public assistance and services to persons
3with disabilities, Armed Forces Recruiting Centers, County Clerk
4of Orphans' Court offices, including each Marriage License
5Bureau, Area Agencies on Aging, Centers for Independent Living,
6county mental health and mental disability offices, student
7disability services offices of the State System of Higher
8Education, offices of special education and ADA Complementary
9Paratransit offices; and

10WHEREAS, The deadline to register for the municipal election
11on November 5, 2013, is October 7, 2013; therefore be it

12RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives recognize
13September 24, 2013, as "National Voter Registration Day" in 
14Pennsylvania and encourage Pennsylvanians to register and vote.
