A RESOLUTION

1Recognizing September 28, 2013, as "National Hunting and Fishing
2Day" in Pennsylvania.

3WHEREAS, Conserving this Commonwealth's natural and wildlife
4resources is one of the most important responsibilities we owe
5to future generations; and

6WHEREAS, Hunters and anglers were among the first
7conservationists to realize this responsibility when they saw
8firsthand, more than 100 years ago, how expanding civilization
9and unregulated exploitation of our natural resources and
10wildlife caused disastrous declines in species populations in
11this Commonwealth; and

12WHEREAS, This Commonwealth's hunters and anglers took steps
13to reverse this trend by supporting laws to stop unregulated
14exploitation of wildlife and helping to establish game and fish
15laws for wildlife protection and sound management practices; and

1WHEREAS, Hunters and anglers also suggested and supported
2laws to establish special hunting and fishing license fees and
3taxes on equipment to pay for conservation and protection
4programs; and

5WHEREAS, The idea of devoting a special day to honor those
6individuals who hunt and fish for their leading role in the
7conservation of fish, wildlife and other natural resources
8originated with a Pennsylvanian, Ira Joffe, of Upper Darby; and

9WHEREAS, Sportsmen have worked the hardest and have paid the
10most to protect and enhance the natural resources of this State,
11giving freely of their time and dollars to enhance the riches of
12this Commonwealth's outdoors; therefore be it

13RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives recognize
14September 28, 2013, as "National Hunting and Fishing Day" in
15Pennsylvania; and be it further

16RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives urge all
17Pennsylvanians to participate in the activities associated with
18"National Hunting and Fishing Day."
