A RESOLUTION
1Designating June 3, 2013, as "Turkic Cultural Day" in
2Pennsylvania and recognizing the valuable work of the Council
3of Turkic American Associations and the Turkish Cultural
4Center of Pennsylvania.
5WHEREAS, The Council of Turkic American Associations and the
6Turkish Cultural Center of Pennsylvania are hosting their fourth
7annual Turkic Cultural Day in order to showcase the rich mosaic
8of different cultures, religions and ethnicities, and to educate
9the public regarding the country of Turkey; and
10WHEREAS, This Commonwealth proudly welcomes the Turkic-
11American community to participate in the festivities in order to
12commemorate the observance of Turkic Cultural Day; and
13WHEREAS, Turkey, a secular democracy, has contributed to the
14foreign policy of the United States in the Balkans, the Middle
15East, Central Asia and the Caucasus; and
16WHEREAS, The Council of Turkic American Associations serves
1as an educational council that promotes Turkic-American culture
2and heritage; and
3WHEREAS, The Turkish Cultural Center of Pennsylvania
4strengthens the cultural and educational ties among people from
5diverse cultural backgrounds and furthers the cause of promoting
6the Turkish heritage of tolerance and understanding; and
7WHEREAS, The Council of Turkic American Associations and the
8Turkish Cultural Center of Pennsylvania serve a diverse Turkic-
9American population in Pennsylvania with heritages from the
10countries of: Turkey, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan,
11Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan and Tajikistan; and
12WHEREAS, Americans of Turkic origin play a significant role
13in the ethnic diversity of Pennsylvania by incorporating their
14rich spiritual and cultural heritage and their dedication to the
15responsibilities of good citizenship; therefore be it
16RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives designate June 3,
172013, as "Turkic Cultural Day" in Pennsylvania and encourage all
18citizens of this Commonwealth to recognize the importance of
19this day; and be it further
20RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives recognize the
21efforts of the Council of Turkic American Associations and the
22Turkish Cultural Center of Pennsylvania in promoting mutual
23understanding, respect and friendship between Turkic Americans
24and their neighbors.
