A RESOLUTION

 

1Honoring Jack Henzes, head football coach of Dunmore High
2School, Dunmore, Lackawanna County, on his selection as Class
3A Coach of the Year by the Pennsylvania Sports Writers.

4WHEREAS, Jack Henzes earned a bachelor of science degree in
5health and physical education from George Washington University
6and a master's degree in secondary education from Catholic
7University; and

8WHEREAS, Jack Henzes was hired as a teacher for Dunmore High
9School, Dunmore, Lackawanna County, in 1970 and the following
10year became the school's head football coach; and

11WHEREAS, Under Coach Henzes' leadership, the football team of
12Dunmore High School achieved its first Eastern Interscholastic
13Football Conference championship title in 1985, and in 1989 he
14became the first Scranton area high school football coach to win
15a State championship; and

1WHEREAS, In 1997, Coach Henzes was inducted into the
2Pennsylvania High School Football Association Hall of Fame and
3his name appears in the National Athletic Coaches Hall of Fame
4as well; and

5WHEREAS, During the 2012 fall season, the Dunmore High School
6football team won its second consecutive Lackawanna Football
7Conference Division II championship and a District 2 Class A
8title; and

9WHEREAS, At the PIAA Class A finals, the Dunmore High School
10football team won three State playoff games, but lost to
11District 7 champion Clarion 20-0 for the State championship
12title; and

13WHEREAS, The 2012 fall season capped off an amazing career
14record for Coach Henzes of 371 victories, which ranks him as
15having the second all-time high school football wins in this
16Commonwealth; and

17WHEREAS, The Pennsylvania Sports Writers selected Coach
18Henzes as the Class A Coach of the Year in 2012; and

19WHEREAS, After 46 seasons as a high school football coach,
20Jack Henzes has proved that he is at the top of his game and
21deserves to be recognized for his achievements; therefore be it

22RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives honor Jack
23Henzes, head football coach of Dunmore High School, Dunmore,
24Lackawanna County, on his selection as Class A Coach of the Year
25by the Pennsylvania Sports Writers.
