A RESOLUTION

 

1Commemorating July 27, 2013, as "Korean War Veterans Armistice
2Day."

3WHEREAS, July 27, 2013, marks the 60th anniversary of the
4signing of the Korean War Armistice; and

5WHEREAS, In an effort to remove the title "the Forgotten War"
6from this bloody conflict, it is fitting to honor the men and
7women who served our country during the Korean War, including
8the tens of thousands of Americans who died, were wounded or are
9still missing in action; and

10WHEREAS, Many veterans and former prisoners of war continue
11to serve us today in our communities; and

12WHEREAS, The Korean War was the United States' first direct
13conflict with communist forces in the Cold War and the first

1deployment of troops to a combat zone to contain communism; and

2WHEREAS, The battles were brutal and our forces fought in
3terrible conditions with the utmost amount of bravery and
4courage; therefore be it

5RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives commemorate July
627, 2013, as "Korean War Veterans Armistice Day;" and be it
7further

8RESOLVED, That local governments and the communities
9throughout this Commonwealth be encouraged to conduct
10appropriate "Korean War Veterans Armistice Day" observances to
11ensure that their many sacrifices are not forgotten.
