AN ACT

 

1Designating a portion of Pennsylvania Route 1001 between Rhawn
2Street, 0100/0000 and Kendrick Street, 0100/2784 in the City
3of Philadelphia, Philadelphia County, as the Firefighter
4Daniel Sweeney Memorial Highway.

5The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
6hereby enacts as follows:

7Section 1. Firefighter Daniel Sweeney Memorial Highway.

8(a) Findings.--The General Assembly finds as follows:

9(1) Firefighter Daniel Sweeney was a member of Ladder 10
10Fire Company and resided at Tabor and Fuller in the heart of
11Fox Chase in the neighborhood where his parents reside.

12(2) Mr. Sweeney made the ultimate sacrifice on Monday,
13April 9, 2012, while fighting a five-alarm fire in
14Kensington. In the fire, he lost his life as a result of a
15collapsing wall and roof. He demonstrated true courage and

1heroism while in the line of duty.

2(3) Mr. Sweeney is survived by his father, David, who is
3a retired fire captain, his mother, Marian, his three
4sisters, Suzanne Swedlige, Sarah Sweeney and Deborah Sweeney,
5his brother-in-law, David Swedlige and his niece and
6godchild, Stacey Swedlige.

7(b) Designation.--The section of Pennsylvania Route 1001
8between Rhawn Street, 0100/0000 and Kendrick Street, 0100/2784
9in the City of Philadelphia, Philadelphia County, is hereby
10designated the Firefighter Daniel Sweeney Memorial Highway.

11(c) Signs.--The Department of Transportation shall erect and
12maintain appropriate signs displaying the name of the highway to
13traffic in both directions on the highway.

14Section 2. Effective date.

15This act shall take effect in 60 days.
