AN ACT
1Designating a portion of Pennsylvania Route 233 from the
2northern corporate limits of Newville Borough to the
3Cumberland County and Perry County line as the Sergeant
4Timothy L. Hayslett Memorial Highway.
5The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
6hereby enacts as follows:
7Section 1. Sergeant Timothy L. Hayslett Memorial Highway.
8(a) Findings and declarations.--The General Assembly finds
9and declares as follows:
10(1) Timothy L. Hayslett was born May 17, 1977, in
11Winston-Salem, North Carolina. He moved to Newville,
12Pennsylvania, in Cumberland County along with his family in
131983. He attended Big Spring High School in Newville and
14entered the United States Army in 1995 where he served for
15eight years.
16(2) Sergeant Hayslett was assigned to the Headquarters
1and Headquarters Company, 1st Battalion, 37th Armored
2Regiment, 1st Armored Division at Friedberg, Germany. He died
3November 15, 2003, at 26 years of age while on patrol in
4Baghdad, Iraq, when an improvised explosive device struck his
5Humvee.
6(3) Sergeant Hayslett was awarded the Purple Heart and
7the Bronze Star Medal for his wounds sustained in combat
8against an enemy of the United States. He was also awarded
9the Good Conduct Medal, the National Defense Service Medal,
10the Global War on Terror Service Medal and the Iraq Campaign
11Medal with Two Bronze Service Stars.
12(4) Sergeant Timothy Hayslett, the beloved son of Guy L.
13and Mary D. Hayslett of Newville, PA, was courageously
14serving his country at the time of his death, and his
15excellence as a soldier has been extolled by many.
16(b) Designation.--The section of Pennsylvania Route 233 from
17the northern corporate limits of Newville Borough to the
18Cumberland County and Perry County line is hereby designated as
19the Sergeant Timothy L. Hayslett Memorial Highway.
20(c) Signs.--The Department of Transportation shall erect and
21maintain appropriate signs displaying the name of the highway to
22traffic in both directions on the highway.
23Section 2. Effective date.
24This act shall take effect immediately.
