AN ACT

 

1Designating a bridge on that portion of State Route 15 over the
2Yellow Breeches Creek, Carroll Township, York County, as the
3Glenn Bowers Memorial Bridge.

4The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
5hereby enacts as follows:

6Section 1. Glenn Bowers Memorial Bridge.

7(a) Findings.--

8(1) Glenn Bowers was a graduate of The Pennsylvania
9State University, where he was a member of the Blue Band,
10symphony and Pi Kappa Alpha Fraternity.

11(2) After the attack on Pearl Harbor, Mr. Bowers
12enlisted in the Navy as an aviation cadet with a unit of 27
13other Penn Staters.

14(3) Mr. Bowers flew over 100 combat missions during his
1513-month tour of duty in the South Pacific and was awarded 11

1air medals and three Distinguished Flying Crosses. During
2this period he served as a member of the famous "Black Sheep"
3squadron under Col. Pappy Boyington.

4(4) After the war, Mr. Bowers returned to Penn State to
5complete his B.S. degree in Zoology and M.S. degree in
6Wildlife Management.

7(5) In 1948, Mr. Bowers began his career with the
8Pennsylvania Game Commission, where he advanced to executive
9director, a post he held for 17 years.

10(6) During his tenure at the Pennsylvania Game
11Commission, numerous innovations were put in place, including
12the spring turkey season and the establishment of the Middle
13Creek Wildlife Management Area and the Scotia Range.

14(7) Over his lifetime, Mr. Bowers was recognized with
15awards by many professional and community organizations,
16including the top honors from the International Association
17of Fish and Wildlife Agencies.

18(b) Designation.--The bridge located on State Route 15 in
19Carroll Township, York County, over the Yellow Breeches Creek is
20hereby designated the Glen Bowers Memorial Bridge.

21(c) Signs.--The Department of Transportation shall erect and
22maintain appropriate signs displaying the name of the bridge to
23traffic in both directions on the bridge.

24Section 2. Effective date.

25This act shall take effect in 60 days.
