AN ACT

 

1Amending the act of March 10, 1949 (P.L.30, No.14), entitled "An
2act relating to the public school system, including certain
3provisions applicable as well to private and parochial
4schools; amending, revising, consolidating and changing the
5laws relating thereto," in pupils and attendance, further
6providing for uniforms and prohibited attire.

7The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
8hereby enacts as follows:

9Section 1. Section 1317.3 of the act of March 10, 1949 
10(P.L.30, No.14), known as the Public School Code of 1949, added
11April 27, 1998 (P.L.270, No.46), is amended to read:

12Section 1317.3. Uniforms and Prohibited Attire.--[The] (a)
13Subject to the provisions in subsection (b), the board of
14directors in any school entity may impose limitations on dress
15and may require pupils to wear standard dress or uniforms. Dress
16policies may be applicable throughout the school entity or may
17be applicable to one or more school buildings within the school
18entity.

19(b) Notwithstanding the provisions of subsection (a), the
20board of public education in a school district of the first

1class shall adopt a policy to prohibit pupils from wearing
2hooded shirts, hats and any other attire that conceal, obscure
3or disguise the face of the person wearing the attire.

4Section 2. This act shall take effect in 60 days.
