AN ACT

 

1Designating a bridge on that portion of S.R. 49 over the
2Cowanesque Creek, Harrison Valley, Potter County, as the
3Specialist Kenneth Wayne Lampman, Sr., Memorial Bridge;
4designating a bridge on that portion of S.R. 44 in
5Shinglehouse, Potter County, over the Oswayo Creek as the
6Specialist Gerald Duane Stonemetz Memorial Bridge; <-and
7designating a bridge on that portion of Mill Street in
8Galeton, Potter County, over the Pine Creek as the <-Private 
9First Class Specialist Clark Robert Douglas Memorial Bridge<-; 
10and designating a bridge on that portion of S.R. 49 over the 
11Cowanesque River in Harrison Township, Potter County, as the
12Private First Class Berwyn Gaylord Cole Memorial Bridge.

13The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
14hereby enacts as follows:

15Section 1. Specialist Kenneth Wayne Lampman, Sr., Memorial
16Bridge.

17(a) Findings.--

18(1) Specialist 4C Kenneth Wayne Lampman, Sr., a resident
19of Harrison Valley, attended Northern Potter High School and

1served in the United States Army as an aircraft maintenance
2mechanic with the 1st Cavalry Division in Vietnam.

3(2) While bravely serving his country, Specialist 4C
4Lampman was killed on March 5, 1967, when his helicopter
5crashed in Vietnam.

6(b) Designation.--The bridge located on S.R. 49 at segment
7460 offset 1088 in Harrison Valley, Potter County, over the
8Cowanesque Creek is hereby designated the Specialist Kenneth
9Wayne Lampman, Sr., Memorial Bridge.

10(c) Signs.--The Department of Transportation shall erect and
11maintain appropriate signs displaying the name of the bridge to
12traffic in both directions on the bridge.

13Section 2. Specialist Gerald Duane Stonemetz Memorial Bridge.

14(a) Findings.--

15(1) United States Army Specialist 4 Gerald Duane
16Stonemetz of Shinglehouse was killed on January 8, 1969,
17while serving his country in Vietnam.

18(2) Specialist 4 Stonemetz was awarded the Army
19Commendation Medal, the National Defense Medal, Vietnam
20Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Ribbon and Marksman Badge
21with rifle bar.

22(b) Designation.--The bridge located on S.R. 44 segment 1090 
23offset 0093 in Shinglehouse Borough, Potter County, over the
24Oswayo Creek is hereby designated the Specialist Gerald Duane
25Stonemetz Memorial Bridge.

26(c) Signs.--The Department of Transportation shall erect and
27maintain appropriate signs displaying the name of the bridge to
28traffic in both directions on the bridge.

29Section 3. <-Private First Class Specialist Clark Robert Douglas
30Memorial Bridge.

1(a) Findings.--

2(1) <-Private First Class Specialist 4 Clark Robert
3Douglas graduated from Galeton High School and attended
4Williamsport School of Commerce prior to joining the United
5States Army.

6(2) <-Private First Class Specialist 4 Douglas, a medic
7attached to the 1st Air Cavalry Division Charlie Company, was
8killed while administering aid to a wounded soldier on
9November 11, 1969, at Firebase LZ Jeri in Phouc Long
10Province, Vietnam.

11(3) <-Private First Class Specialist 4 Douglas was awarded
12medals for bravery and heroism for his rendering aid to
13wounded soldiers in the midst of enemy fire. Although thrown
14to the ground by a burst of impacting mortar round, he
15persistently crawled in to the fusillade to assist his fellow
16soldiers when he was mortally struck by another round of
17fire.

18(b) Designation.--The bridge located on S.R. 1022 segment 20 
19offset 0000 Mill Street in Galeton Borough, Potter County, over
20the Pine Creek is hereby designated the <-Private First Class 
<-21Specialist Clark Robert Douglas Memorial Bridge.

22(c) Signs.--The Department of Transportation shall erect and
23maintain appropriate signs displaying the name of the bridge to
24traffic in both directions on the bridge.

<-25Section 4. Private First Class Berwyn Gaylord Cole Memorial
26Bridge.

27(a) Findings.--

28(1) Private First Class Berwyn Gaylord Cole, resident of
29Elmer, Harrison Township, Potter County, graduated from
30Harrison High School in 1943.

1(2) Private Cole was drafted into the United States Army
2when he was 18 years old, received basic training at Camp
3Meade, Maryland, and was stationed at Camp Haan, California.

4(3) Private Cole was assigned to Company A, 119th
5Infantry Regiment and was sent overseas.

6(4) On December 21, 1944, when he was 19 years old,
7Private Cole was killed in action at the Battle of the Bulge.

8(b) Designation.--The bridge located on State Route 49 at
9Segment 0500 Offset 1426 over the Cowanesque River in Harrison
10Township, Potter County, is hereby designated the Private First
11Class Berwyn Gaylord Cole Memorial Bridge.

12(c) Signs.--The Department of Transportation shall erect and
13maintain appropriate signs displaying the name of the bridge to
14traffic in both directions on the bridge.

15Section <-4 5. Effective date.

16This act shall take effect in 60 days.
