AN ACT

 

1Amending Title 75 (Vehicles) of the Pennsylvania Consolidated
2Statutes, further providing for veteran plates and placard;
3and providing for issuance of "In God We Trust" registration
4plates.

5The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
6hereby enacts as follows:

7Section 1.  Section 1342(a), (c) and (d) of Title 75 of the
8Pennsylvania Consolidated Statutes are amended to read:

9§ 1342.  Veteran plates and placard.

10(a)  Severely disabled veteran plate.--On the application of
11a veteran whose service-connected disability is certified at
12100% by the service unit of the armed forces in which the
13veteran served or by the United States Veterans' Administration
14or who has a service-connected disability of the type enumerated
15in section 1338 (relating to person with disability plate and
16placard), the department shall issue a special registration
17plate designating the vehicle as belonging to a severely

1disabled veteran. The registration plate shall have a white
2background, shall have blue numbers or letters as the department
3may determine, shall have the words "disabled veteran" in at
4least ten-point bold type inscribed in red at the bottom of the
5plate and shall include the international symbol for access for
6persons with disabilities. [Only one] A special registration
7plate [shall be] issued to a veteran under this section[. It]
8may be used only on a passenger car or truck with a registered
9gross weight of not more than 10,000 pounds. In the case of a
10motorcycle, the department shall issue a decal containing the
11international symbol for access for persons with disabilities
12and the words "disabled veteran" for display on the registration
13plate.

15(c)  Disabled veteran plates.--On the application of any
16veteran having a disability certified by the service unit of the
17armed forces in which the veteran served or by the United States
18Veterans' Administration as service-connected, the department
19shall issue a special registration plate designating the vehicle
20as belonging to a disabled veteran. The registration plate shall
21have a white background, shall have numbers or letters as the
22department may determine and shall have the words "disabled
23veteran" in at least ten-point bold type inscribed at the bottom
24of the plate. [Only one] A special registration plate [shall be]
25issued to a veteran under this section[. It] may be used only on
26a passenger car or truck with a registered gross weight of not
27more than 10,000 pounds.

28(d)  Prisoner of war plate.--On the application of an ex-
29prisoner of war whose imprisonment while in the service of the
30armed forces of the United States is certified by the

1appropriate branch of the armed forces, the department shall
2issue a special registration plate designating the vehicle as
3belonging to an ex-prisoner of war. The registration plate shall
4contain the letters "POW" and such other numbers or letters as
5the department may determine and shall have the words "prisoner
6of war" in at least ten-point bold type inscribed at the bottom
7of the plate. [Only one] A special registration plate [shall be]
8issued to an ex-prisoner of war under this subsection[. The
9special registration plate] may be used only on a passenger car
10or truck with a registered gross weight of not more than 10,000
11pounds.

13Section 2.  Title 75 is amended by adding a section to read:

14§ 1370.  Special "In God We Trust" plates.

15Upon application of any person, accompanied by a fee of $20 
16which shall be in addition to the annual registration fee, the 
17department shall issue to the person a special "In God We Trust" 
18registration plate. The special registration plate may be used 
19only on a passenger car or truck with a registered gross weight 
20of not more than 14,000 pounds.

21Section 3.  This act shall take effect in 120 days.
