1Amending Title 75 (Vehicles) of the Pennsylvania Consolidated
2Statutes, providing for biennial registration of certain
3vehicles; and further providing for annual registration fees,
4for passenger cars and for trucks and truck tractors.

5The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
6hereby enacts as follows:

7Section 1.  Title 75 of the Pennsylvania Consolidated
8Statutes is amended by adding a section to read:

9§ 1307.2.  Biennial registration of certain vehicles.

10The department may establish a system for renewing the
11vehicle registration of passenger cars, Class 1 trucks and Class
122 trucks on a biennial basis to owners and lessees of the
13vehicles and may promulgate rules and regulations to implement
14the system.

15Section 2.  Sections 1911(a) and 1912 of Title 75 are amended
16to read:

17§ 1911.  Annual and biennial registration fees.

18(a)  General rule.--An annual or optional biennial fee for

1the registration of vehicles as provided in Chapter 13 (relating
2to the registration of vehicles) shall be charged by the
3department as provided in this title.

5§ 1912.  Passenger cars.

6(a)  General rule.--The annual fee for registration of a
7passenger car shall be $36.

8(b)  Optional biennial registration.--A vehicle may be
9registered for a period of two years upon payment by the
10registrant of the applicable fee of $72.

11Section 3.  Section 1916 of Title 75 is amended by adding a
12subsection to read:

13§ 1916.  Trucks and truck tractors.

15(c)  Optional biennial registration.--A vehicle designated
16Class 1 or Class 2 under this section may be registered for a
17period of two years upon payment by the registrant of the
18applicable fee of $117 for Class 1 and $162 for Class 2.

19Section 4.  This act shall take effect in 180 days.
