A RESOLUTION

Expressing condolences on the loss of Marine Lieutenant Colonel

2

Christopher "Otis" Raible, a native of Irwin, Westmoreland

3

County, who was killed while supporting combat operations in

4

Helmand Province, Afghanistan, on September 15, 2012, at 40

5

years of age.

6

WHEREAS, Lieutenant Colonel Raible was commanding officer of

7

Marine Attack Squadron 211, Marine Aircraft Group 13, 3rd Marine

8

Aircraft Wing, I Marine Expeditionary Force, based in Yuma,

9

Arizona; and

10

WHEREAS, Lt. Col. Raible's military record includes service

11

in support of Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation Iraqi

12

Freedom; and

13

WHEREAS, Lt. Col. Raible graduated from Norwin High School in

14

the top seventh percentile of his class; and

15

WHEREAS, He attended Carnegie Mellon University, earning a

16

civil engineering degree; and

17

WHEREAS, A dedicated aviator, Lt. Col. Raible received his

18

commission in 1995 and amassed more than 2,000 hours in Harrier

19

strike aircraft; and

20

WHEREAS, Before his tragic death, this valiant soldier

received numerous military honors, including the Meritorious

2

Service Medal and the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal;

3

and

4

WHEREAS, He will posthumously be awarded a Purple Heart, a

5

Bronze Star, a Combat Action Ribbon and an Air Medal with Strike

6

15 award; and

7

WHEREAS, Memorial services honoring Lt. Col. Raible were held

8

at Marine Corps Air Station Yuma's chapel and at Camp Bastion in

9

Afghanistan; and

10

WHEREAS, Lt. Col. Raible was interred at Arlington National

11

Cemetery following a funeral service at Fort Myer Memorial

12

Chapel; and

13

WHEREAS, Lt. Col. Raible's survivors include his wife,

14

Donella, three children and his parents, Alvin and Kim Raible;

15

therefore be it

16

RESOLVED, That the Senate express condolences on the loss of

17

Marine Lieutenant Colonel Christopher "Otis" Raible, a native of

18

Irwin, Westmoreland County, who was killed while supporting

19

combat operations in Helmand Province, Afghanistan, on September

20

15, 2012, at 40 years of age.
