| AN ACT |
| |
1 | Amending Title 66 (Public Utilities) of the Pennsylvania |
2 | Consolidated Statutes, in railroads, providing for whistle |
3 | post signage. |
4 | The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania |
5 | hereby enacts as follows: |
6 | Section 1. Title 66 of the Pennsylvania Consolidated |
7 | Statutes is amended by adding a section to read: |
8 | § 2710. Whistle post signage. |
9 | (a) Duty.--A public utility engaged in a railroad business |
10 | shall place whistle post signs to the right of the main track in |
11 | the direction of approach exactly one-quarter of a mile from the |
12 | entrance to crossings to notify engineers or operators of |
13 | locomotives who blow a whistle and ring a bell as the locomotive |
14 | approaches the crossing as a warning to the public. |
15 | (b) Signs.--The whistle post signs shall consist of a "W" |
16 | identifiable on a square plate mounted on a post and shall be: |
17 | (1) Visible to an engineer or operator of a locomotive |
18 | within the cabin or caboose car. |

1 | (2) Kept in good repair. |
2 | (3) Replaced promptly when necessary. |
3 | Section 2. This act shall take effect in 60 days. |
