AN ACT

Amending the act of March 10, 1949 (P.L.30, No.14), entitled "An

2

act relating to the public school system, including certain

3

provisions applicable as well to private and parochial

4

schools; amending, revising, consolidating and changing the

5

laws relating thereto," providing for an annual report on the

6

technology grant program.

The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania

8

hereby enacts as follows:

Section 1.  The act of March 10, 1949 (P.L.30, No.14), known

10

as the Public School Code of 1949, is amended by adding a

11

section to read:

Section 118.  Annual Report on Technology Grant Programs.--

13

(a)  The Department of Education shall annually review the

14

operation of any State grant program designed to provide

15

enhanced technology, laptop computers and other state-of-the-art

16

resources to school entities in this Commonwealth and shall

17

compile an annual report.

18

(b)  The annual report shall include the following

19

information for the fiscal year in which the report is issued:

(1)  A listing of each school entity that received grant

2

funds, the amount of grant funds received and an identification

3

of whether the grant funds were used to establish, maintain or

4

expand any program related to enhanced technology, laptop

5

computers and other state-of-the-art resources.

(2)  The criteria used to determine the eligibility of a

7

school entity to receive grant funds.

8

(3)  The criteria used to determine the amount of grant funds

9

a school entity received.

10

(4)  The process a school entity utilized to apply for grant

11

funds, including sample copies of any and all application forms,

12

instructions and deadlines.

13

(5)  For each school entity that received grant funds, a

14

listing of the enhanced technology, laptop computers and other

15

state-of-the-art resources purchased with the grant funds.

16

(6)  For each school entity that received grant funds, the

17

number of students impacted by the enhanced technology, laptop

18

computers and other state-of-the-art resources purchased with

19

the grant funds.

20

(7)  A listing of any provider of enhanced technology, laptop

21

computers and other state-of-the-art resources with whom the

22

Department of Education or the Commonwealth holds a contract or

23

agreement where such contract or agreement is used to provide a

24

school entity that received grant funds with enhanced

25

technology, laptop computers and other state-of-the-art

26

resources.

(8)  An assessment of any impact the program has had on

28

student achievement and success.

(c)  No later than February 1, 2012, and February 1 of each

30

year thereafter, the Department of Education shall submit the

report required under this section to the chairmen and minority

2

chairmen of the Appropriations Committee and the Education

3

Committee of the Senate and to the chairmen and minority

4

chairmen of the Appropriations Committee and of the Education

5

Committee of the House of Representatives. The report shall be

6

included on the Department of Education's Internet website.

7

Section 2.  This act shall take effect immediately.
