AN ACT

Amending the act of August 9, 1955 (P.L.323, No.130), entitled,

2

as amended, "An act relating to counties of the first, third,

3

fourth, fifth, sixth, seventh and eighth classes; amending,

4

revising, consolidating and changing the laws relating

5

thereto; relating to imposition of excise taxes by counties,

6

including authorizing imposition of an excise tax on the

7

rental of motor vehicles by counties of the first class; and

8

providing for regional renaissance initiatives," authorizing

9

the abolition of jury commissioners in certain counties of

10

the second class A.

The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania

12

hereby enacts as follows:

Section 1.  Section 401 of the act of August 9, 1955 (P.L.

14

323, No.130), known as The County Code, is amended by adding a

15

subsection to read:

Section 401.  Enumeration of Elected Officers.--* * *

17

(f)  After review of the procedures in effect within the

18

county to ensure that lists of potential jurors are a

19

representative cross section of the community, the governing

20

body of a county of the second class A having a population under

21

the 2010 Federal decennial census in excess of 600,000

residents, but less than 630,000 residents, may adopt, by a

2

majority vote, a resolution abolishing the office of jury

3

commissioner. Upon approval of the resolution, the office of

4

jury commissioner shall expire at the completion of the current

5

jury commissioners' terms of office. The resolution shall not be

6

passed in any year in which the office of jury commissioner is

7

on the ballot.

Section 2.  This act shall take effect in 30 days.
