INTRODUCED AS NONCONTROVERSIAL RESOLUTION UNDER RULE 35, SEPTEMBER 25, 2012  

  

  

  

A RESOLUTION

Designating October 10, 2012, as "Put the Brakes on Fatalities

2

Day" in Pennsylvania.

3

WHEREAS, During 2010, highway fatalities in the United States

4

decreased to 32,885 and the following year, dropped further to

5

32,310; and

6

WHEREAS, There are many controllable causes of traffic

7

fatalities, including excessive speed, use of alcohol and drugs,

8

inexperience and carelessness; and

9

WHEREAS, The National Society of Professional Engineers, the

10

Institute of Transportation Engineers Expert Witness Council and

11

a coalition of government agencies have teamed up to focus

12

national public awareness October 10, 2012, regarding the cause

13

of traffic fatalities and the need to reduce the number of

14

traffic fatalities; and

WHEREAS, There is national interest in designating October

2

10, 2012, as "Put the Brakes on Fatalities Day"; and

3

WHEREAS, On that day everyone should take an extra measure of

4

care to ensure their safety and the safety of sharing the road

5

with other users in a safe manner by:

6

(1)  driving courteously and defensively;

7

(2)  knowing the rules of the road for their method of

8

transportation and obeying all signs and signals;

9

(3)  wearing protective gear, seat belts or helmets; and

10

(4)  avoiding speeding or driving while impaired or

11

driving aggressively;

12

therefore be it

13

RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives designate October

14

10, 2012, as "Put the Brakes on Fatalities Day" in Pennsylvania.
