| INTRODUCED BY S. H. | A RESOLUTION |
| |
1 | Honoring Hines Ward for his distinguished career with the |
2 | Pittsburgh Steelers. |
3 | WHEREAS, Hines Ward was drafted by the Pittsburgh Steelers |
4 | from the University of Georgia in the third round of the 1998 |
5 | NFL draft; and |
6 | WHEREAS, During his career with the Steelers, this incredibly |
7 | versatile athlete led the team in at least one team category |
8 | every year, including the all-time receiving leader in |
9 | receptions, receiving yards and receiving touchdowns; and |
10 | WHEREAS, Hines Ward has the distinction as the only Steeler |
11 | in history to have 1,000 catches and more than 12,000 receiving |
12 | yards and the only receiver to amass more than 1,000 receiving |
13 | yards in four consecutive seasons (2001-2004); and |
14 | WHEREAS, Hines Ward holds every receiving record in Steeler |

1 | history has earned three team Most Valuable Player selections |
2 | and four consecutive Pro Bowl selections; and |
3 | WHEREAS, Hines Ward has led his team to three AFC |
4 | Championships, three Super Bowls and two Super Bowl |
5 | championships and was named Super Bowl XL's Most Valuable Player |
6 | in the Steelers' 21-10 victory over the Seattle Seahawks in |
7 | 2006; and |
8 | WHEREAS, In his final season as a Pittsburgh Steeler, Hines |
9 | Ward became only the eighth receiver in NFL history to reach |
10 | 1,000 catches in his career and the first in Steeler history to |
11 | reach 1,000 career receptions and win multiple Super Bowls; and |
12 | WHEREAS, In addition to being a gifted athlete, Hines Ward |
13 | has dedicated much of his personal time to helping children; and |
14 | WHEREAS, After scoring a touchdown during home games, he was |
15 | known for searching the stands for a child wearing his #86 |
16 | jersey and presenting that child with the touchdown ball; and |
17 | WHEREAS, This native of Seoul, South Korea, has started his |
18 | own foundation, the "Hines Ward Helping Hands Foundation," that |
19 | has as its chief cause the goal of ending biracial |
20 | discrimination in the United States and South Korea; and |
21 | WHEREAS, The Helping Hands U.S. Foundation focuses on |
22 | improving literacy among children and providing programs to |
23 | better equip them for achieving and handling success in life; |
24 | and the Korea Foundation targets biracial discrimination; and |
25 | WHEREAS, Hines Ward has also willingly volunteered his time |
26 | with Pearl S. Buck International, The Caring Foundation, Cystic |
27 | Fibrosis Foundation, Salvation Army, Make-A-Wish Foundation, |
28 | Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh and the NFL's Take a Player to |
29 | School program; therefore be it |
30 | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives honor Hines Ward |

2 | accomplishments and for providing the fans with many memorable |
3 | moments and lots of reasons to cheer during this fourteen |
4 | seasons on the field with the Pittsburgh Steelers. |
