A RESOLUTION

  

1

Designating May 1, 2012, as "Loyalty Day" in Pennsylvania.

2

WHEREAS, The Department of Pennsylvania, Veterans of Foreign

3

Wars of the United States, is conducting its annual "Loyalty

4

Day" program on the grounds of the State Capitol on May 1, 2012;

5

and

6

WHEREAS, In 1958, President Dwight D. Eisenhower signed the

7

act of July 18, 1958 (Public Law 85-529, 72 Stat. 369), which

8

designates the first day in May of each year as "Loyalty Day";

9

and

10

WHEREAS, "Loyalty Day" is set aside as a special day for

11

reaffirming loyalty to the United States and recognizing

12

American freedom; and

13

WHEREAS, The President of the United States annually issues a

14

proclamation calling on officials to proudly display the flag of

the United States on all government buildings on this special

2

day; and

3

WHEREAS, Citizens and elected officials are encouraged to

4

observe "Loyalty Day" in schools and other appropriate places;

5

and

6

WHEREAS, In the post-9/11 world, it is fitting that the

7

citizens of this Commonwealth pause on "Loyalty Day" to reflect

8

on the privileges of freedom, democracy and unmatched

9

opportunity that we enjoy in the United States; therefore be it

10

RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives designate May 1,

11

2012, as "Loyalty Day" in Pennsylvania, proudly joining the

12

Department of Pennsylvania, Veterans of Foreign Wars of the

13

United States, in its observance and commending the department

14

for its continued service to our nation and this Commonwealth;

15

and be it further

16

RESOLVED, That a copy of this resolution be transmitted to

17

Pennsylvania State Veterans of Foreign Wars Commander Larry N.

18

Reece on May 1, 2012, at the "Loyalty Day" program conducted by

19

the Department of Pennsylvania, Veterans of Foreign Wars of the

20

United States, on the grounds of the State Capitol.
