INTRODUCED AS NONCONTROVERSIAL RESOLUTION UNDER RULE 35, APRIL 30, 2012  

  

  

  

A RESOLUTION

Commemorating June 7, 2012, as the "Battle of Midway Remembrance

2

Day" in Pennsylvania.

3

WHEREAS, June 4 through 7, 2012, marks the 70th anniversary

4

of the historic Battle of Midway, an event considered to be the

5

turning point of the Pacific front of World War II; and

6

WHEREAS, Three hundred and seven Americans lost their lives

7

in a courageous effort to turn the tide of war and protect the

8

American naval fleet; and

9

WHEREAS, The Americans defeated a superior Japanese force;

10

and

11

WHEREAS, American intelligence was key in correctly

12

ascertaining that the Japanese were planning a surprise attack;

and

WHEREAS, This crucial intelligence led to the sinking of four

3

irreplaceable Japanese fleet carriers, which were also the

4

carriers involved in the Pearl Harbor attack; and

5

WHEREAS, This battle marked the end of the Japanese offensive

6

and the beginning of America's; therefore be it

7

RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives commemorate June

8

7, 2012, as the "Battle of Midway Remembrance Day" in

9

Pennsylvania; and be it further

10

RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives encourage local

11

governments and the communities throughout this Commonwealth to

12

conduct appropriate "Battle of Midway Remembrance Day"

13

observances to ensure that the many sacrifices of that day are

14

not forgotten.
