A RESOLUTION

Declaring the week of April 30 through May 4, 2012, as

2

"Pennsylvania Academic Competition Week" in Pennsylvania; and

3

urging the Department of Education, local school districts

4

and intermediate units to participate in the 21st annual

5

Statewide Pennsylvania Academic Competition on May 4, 2012.

WHEREAS, The education of all Pennsylvania children is a

7

major concern to the citizens of this Commonwealth and requires

8

the use of creative and innovative means to focus attention upon

9

this concern; and

10

WHEREAS, Excellence displayed in athletic competition has

11

long been recognized by societal and community rewards provided

12

for that competition; and

13

WHEREAS, Academic competition is an innovative and creative

14

attempt to involve children, parents, educators and community

15

members in an educational forum for excellence; and

16

WHEREAS, Academic competition helps to hone the abilities and

17

intellectual skills of students, as well as providing

18

opportunities for incentives to continue the pursuit of

19

excellence in education; and

WHEREAS, A coordinated program of academic competition has

2

not existed in this Commonwealth, except in isolated school

3

district programs; therefore be it

4

RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives declare the week

5

of April 30 through May 4, 2012, as "Pennsylvania Academic

6

Competition Week" in Pennsylvania; and be it further

7

RESOLVED, That the Department of Education, local school

8

districts and intermediate units be urged to actively

9

participate in the finals of the 21st annual Statewide

10

Pennsylvania Academic Competition to be held in the House of

11

Representatives Chamber on May 4, 2012.
