INTRODUCED AS NONCONTROVERSIAL RESOLUTION UNDER RULE 35, OCTOBER 26, 2011  

A RESOLUTION

Designating the month of October 2011 as "Realtors Reach Out

Month" in Pennsylvania.

WHEREAS, The Pennsylvania Association of REALTORS® and its

local associations are participating in REALTORS® Reach Out 2011

across this Commonwealth; and

WHEREAS, This is the fourth year that REALTORS® will

participate in this initiative; and

WHEREAS, From October 1 through October 31, REALTORS® will

volunteer their time to benefit charitable organizations; and

WHEREAS, Pennsylvania REALTORS® volunteer throughout the

year, but the Pennsylvania Association of REALTORS® and its

members want to make a concerted effort to help out in

communities across this Commonwealth during October 2011; and

WHEREAS, In the past three REALTORS® Reach Out events, more

than 5,500 REALTORS® across this Commonwealth participated with

27 local REALTORS® associations and boards in donating more than

$153,000 and collecting nearly 37,600 pounds of food and 1,000

pieces of clothing for charitable organizations; and

WHEREAS, Members also have refurbished homes, helped restore

local communities, held blood drives and provided other

assistance to those in need as part of this initiative; and

WHEREAS, REALTORS® Reach Out has scheduled the following

events for the month: a food drive October 1 through 31 at the

Pennsylvania Association of REALTORS® headquarters in Lemoyne, a

food drive on October 14 at the Central Pennsylvania Food Bank

in Harrisburg, an arts and crafts kit distribution event at

Caitlin's Smiles in Harrisburg, an American Cancer Society

Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk on October 15 at City

Island in Harrisburg, a Clean Clothes/Full Bellies clothes and

food event October 1 through 13 at the Cambria Somerset

Association of REALTORS®, a REALTORS® Association of York &

Adams Counties, Inc., silent auction on October 5 at the York

Expo Center, a Bucks County Association of REALTORS® clothing

and household item drive October 1 through 31 at six locations

in the county, as well as a blood drive at BCAR Headquarters on

October 19, a fall community clean-up at various locations

October 17 and 18, along with other events, and a Reading-Berks

Association of REALTORS® toy drive October 1 through December 2

at the R-BAR Headquarters in Wyomissing; and

WHEREAS, Chartered in 1920 as the Pennsylvania Real Estate

Association, The Pennsylvania Association of REALTORS® is one of

the largest trade associations in the State that serves as the

"voice for real estate®" for its more than 30,000 members in

this Commonwealth. It is a member organization of the National

Association of REALTORS® and is comprised of residential and

commercial REALTORS® who subscribe to a strict code of ethics

and standards of practice; and

WHEREAS, The association seeks to promote homeownership,

encourage investment in real estate, protect the right to own

and use private property, enable members to transact business to

the advantage and protection of the public and members, promote

and maintain high standards of conduct, advance civil

development and economic growth in this Commonwealth and lend

assistance to the Pennsylvania State Real Estate Commission and

the State Board of Certified Real Estate Appraisers in the

enforcement of their regulations; therefore be it

RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives designate the

month of October 2011 as "Realtors Reach Out Month" in

Pennsylvania and offer all those participating in the event

support, encouragement and thanks for this year's REALTORS®

Reach Out initiative.
