A RESOLUTION

Recognizing and honoring the life and service of United States

2

Air Force Technical Sergeant Daniel L. Zerbe and paying

3

tribute to his sacrifice in the line of duty.

4

WHEREAS, Daniel Zerbe was born on June 27, 1983, in

5

Chambersburg; and

6

WHEREAS, Daniel Zerbe graduated from Red Lion Area High

7

School in 2001 and enlisted in the United States Air Force; and

8

WHEREAS, Daniel Zerbe was a Technical Sergeant in the

9

Pararescue Unit of the 24th Special Tactics Unit, stationed out

10

of Pope Field, North Carolina; and

11

WHEREAS, While still in high school, Tech. Sgt. Zerbe aspired

to join the Air Force Pararescue Jumpers, the only military unit

2

trained specifically in the recovery and medical treatment of

3

soldiers in battle; and

4

WHEREAS, Tech. Sgt. Zerbe gave his life on August 6, 2011, in

5

Wardak Province, Afghanistan, while on a mission with other

6

Special Forces soldiers to protect Army Rangers engaged in a

7

firefight with insurgents; and

8

WHEREAS, Tech. Sgt. Zerbe demonstrated a deep fidelity to

9

this country, bravely facing the dangers of his noble profession

10

and performing his duties with exemplary knowledge, ability and

11

integrity; and

12

WHEREAS, Tech. Sgt. Zerbe served with great distinction,

13

recognized by the United States Air Force with decorations such

14

as the Bronze Star Medal with two oak leaf clusters, the Purple

15

Heart, the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, the Air Medal with

16

seven oak leaf clusters, the Aerial Achievement Medal with one

17

oak leaf cluster, the Joint Service Commendation Medal, the Air

18

Force Achievement Medal and the Air Force Combat Action Medal,

19

and he was selected as the Air Force Pararescueman NCO of the

20

Year for 2010; and

21

WHEREAS, Tech. Sgt. Zerbe was posthumously awarded the Bronze

22

Star with Valor; and

23

WHEREAS, Tech. Sgt. Zerbe's last moments were spent in the

24

service of the United States Air Force, valiantly attempting to

25

rescue his fellow soldiers; and

26

WHEREAS, Tech. Sgt. Zerbe is survived by his parents, Terry

27

and Susan; his brother, Christopher; his sister, Megan; his

28

paternal grandparents, Douglas and Shirley; his maternal

29

grandparents, Leslie and Sheila Noel; and extended family;

30

therefore be it

RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives recognize and

2

honor the life and service of United States Air Force Technical

3

Sergeant Daniel L. Zerbe and pay tribute to his sacrifice in the

4

line of duty.
