INTRODUCED AS NONCONTROVERSIAL RESOLUTION UNDER RULE 35, MARCH 4, 2011  

A RESOLUTION

Designating the month of March 2011 as "Medical Physicist

Awareness and Appreciation Month" in Pennsylvania.

WHEREAS, Medical physicists calibrate, test and monitor the

radiation emission of equipment used in diagnostic radiological

physics, therapeutic radiological or radiation oncology physics,

medical nuclear physics and medical health physics; and

WHEREAS, The work of medical physicists is necessary and

integral to ensure the safe and effective use of radiation in a

medical context; and

WHEREAS, Patients and the general public are typically

unaware of the integral role medical physicists play in ensuring

that only safe and appropriate levels of radiation are applied

during a radiation-based medical treatment; and

WHEREAS, This Commonwealth has an interest in recognizing and

promoting the safe application of medical physics by qualified

medical physicists; therefore be it

RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives designate the

month of March 2011 as "Medical Physicist Awareness and

Appreciation Month" in Pennsylvania.
