AN ACT

Designating State Route 422, from its intersection with State

2

Route 724 in the Borough of Sinking Spring, Berks County, to

3

the west end of the Borough of Robesonia, Berks County, as

4

the Kyle D. Pagerly Memorial Highway.

The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania

6

hereby enacts as follows:

Section 1.  Kyle D. Pagerly Memorial Highway.

8

(a)  Findings.--The General Assembly finds and declares as

9

follows:

10

(1)  On the evening of June 29, 2011, Kyle D. Pagerly,

11

serving as a member of a United States Marshall's Fugitive

12

Task Force, was shot and killed in the line of duty as the

13

task force was attempting to serve a warrant on an individual

14

in Albany Township, Berks County. The heroic actions of

15

Deputy Pagerly and his K-9 partner, Jynx, saved the lives of

the other task force members.

(2)  At the time of his death, Deputy Pagerly worked for

3

the Berks County Sheriff's Office and the Western Berks

4

Regional Police Department.

(3)  Deputy Pagerly is survived by his pregnant wife,

6

Alecia, whom he married in 2007.

7

(4)  Deputy Pagerly was a 2001 graduate of Wilson High

8

School and went on to graduate from the United States Army's

9

Military Police School later that year.

(5)  Deputy Pagerly was a United States Army veteran,

11

having served on active duty in Kosovo in 2002 and in Iraq

12

from 2003 to 2004.

13

(6)  Deputy Pagerly graduated from the Reading Police

14

Academy in 2005. He was employed by the Berks County

15

Sheriff's Office since 2006 and by the Western Berks Regional

16

Police Department since 2007. He was a 2009 graduate of the

17

Philadelphia Police K-9 Academy.

(7)  Deputy Pagerly also served as a volunteer

19

firefighter in Spring Township, Berks County, for 14 years,

20

rising to the rank of lieutenant.

(b)  Designation.--State Route 422, from its intersection

22

with State Route 724 in the Borough of Sinking Spring, Berks

23

County, to the west end of the Borough of Robesonia, Berks

24

County, is designated as the Kyle D. Pagerly Memorial Highway.

25

(c)  Signs.--The Department of Transportation shall erect and

26

maintain appropriate signs displaying the name of the highway to

27

traffic in both directions.

Section 2.  Effective date.

29

This act shall take effect in 60 days.
