| AN ACT |
| |
1 | Designating Route 202 Parkway on State Route 202 connecting |
2 | State Route 63 in Montgomery Township, Montgomery County, and |
3 | State Route 611 in Doylestown Township, Bucks County, as the |
4 | George A. Penglase Memorial Parkway. |
5 | The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania |
6 | hereby enacts as follows: |
7 | Section 1. George A. Penglase Memorial Parkway. |
8 | (a) Findings.--The General Assembly finds and declares as |
9 | follows: |
10 | (1) George A. Penglase, who died on January 14, 2005, at |
11 | the age of 71, was a respected business leader, devoted |
12 | family man and tireless community activist in Bucks County |
13 | for four decades. Foremost among his civic and community |
14 | endeavors was his 35-year dedication to seeing the Route 202 |
15 | Bypass come to fruition. He and a group of concerned citizens |
16 | founded the citizens group "Support the Bypass for Route |
17 | 202," and Penglase led the public push for this critical |
18 | infrastructure project since its inception in 1969. |
19 | (2) At the time of his death, Penglase had served as |

1 | president of the Bucks County Economic Development |
2 | Corporation for six years and chaired the corporation's |
3 | Transportation Committee. Penglase also was an active member |
4 | of the Central Bucks Chamber of Commerce for 35 years, |
5 | serving on the Chamber's Board of Directors for 13 years. In |
6 | both of those organizations, Penglase was a vocal and |
7 | consistent proponent for what will soon be realized as the |
8 | 8.6-mile Route 202 Parkway. |
9 | (3) Penglase was the owner and president of PKG |
10 | Insurance Associates, Inc., in Doylestown for 31 years. |
11 | (4) Born in Philadelphia, Penglase was a graduate of |
12 | Germantown High School and The Pennsylvania State University. |
13 | He served in the United States Navy for four years aboard the |
14 | USS Midway, and then served four more years in the United |
15 | States Naval Reserve. |
16 | (5) Penglase was an active volunteer firefighter for 28 |
17 | years and part of the ambulance crew for 20 years, serving |
18 | with the Chalfont Volunteer Fire Company. He was twice |
19 | honored as Firefighter of the Year, and once honored as |
20 | Volunteer of the Year. |
21 | (6) He was a member of the Chalfont Lions Club, the |
22 | Doylestown TIPS Club and the New Britain Township Youth Aid |
23 | Panel. Penglase also founded and served on a drug and alcohol |
24 | education program for the Central Bucks School District. |
25 | (7) He was a loving husband to his wife, Elizabeth, for |
26 | 50 years and a devoted father to four daughters. |
27 | (b) Designation.--The Route 202 Parkway on State Route 202 |
28 | connecting State Route 63 in Montgomery Township, Montgomery |
29 | County, and State Route 611 in Doylestown Township, Bucks |
30 | County, is hereby designated as the George A. Penglase Memorial |

1 | Parkway. |
2 | (c) Signs.--The Department of Transportation shall erect and |
3 | maintain appropriate signs displaying the name of the highway to |
4 | traffic in both directions. |
5 | Section 2. Effective date. |
6 | This act shall take effect in 60 days. |
