| AN ACT |
| |
1 | Designating a bridge on that portion of S.R. 1012 over the |
2 | Lackawanna River, Archbald Borough, Lackawanna County, as the |
3 | Police Chief Thomas J. Malone Memorial Bridge. |
4 | The General Assembly finds and declares that: |
5 | (1) Thomas J. Malone faithfully carried out the duties |
6 | of a police officer for the Borough of Archbald, Lackawanna |
7 | County, for over 50 years. |
8 | (2) Thomas J. Malone was appointed Chief of the Archbald |
9 | Borough Police Department in 1938 and served in that capacity |
10 | until his retirement in 1973. |
11 | (3) Thomas J. Malone was elected from among his peers as |
12 | President of the Pennsylvania Chiefs of Police Association. |
13 | (4) Thomas J. Malone was often stationed as a crossing |
14 | guard at the middle bridge on Wayne Street in Archbald |
15 | Borough to care for and assist children going to and from the |
16 | Archbald High School and the parochial school. |
17 | (5) Thomas J. Malone died on January 1, 1983. |
18 | (6) Thomas J. Malone contributed much to his communuity |
19 | and is missed as a valued public servant. |

1 | The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania |
2 | hereby enacts as follows: |
3 | Section 1. Police Chief Thomas J. Malone Memorial Bridge. |
4 | (a) Designation.--The bridge located on S.R. 1012 in |
5 | Archbald Borough, Lackawanna County, over the Lackawanna River, |
6 | is hereby designated the Police Chief Thomas J. Malone Memorial |
7 | Bridge. |
8 | (b) Signs.–-The Department of Transportation shall erect and |
9 | maintain appropriate signs displaying the name of the bridge to |
10 | traffic in both directions on the bridge. |
11 | Section 2. Effective date. |
12 | This act shall take effect in 60 days. |
