| A RESOLUTION |
| |
1 | Recognizing the week of May 9 through 15, 2010, as "National |
2 | Police Week" and May 3, 2010, as "Police Officers' Memorial |
3 | Day" in Pennsylvania. |
4 | WHEREAS, Approximately 717 police officers have made the |
5 | ultimate sacrifice since the beginning of law enforcement within |
6 | this Commonwealth by being killed in the line of duty, including |
7 | the following officers who died in 2009: Detective Chris Jones, |
8 | Middletown Township Police Department; Officer John Pawlowski, |
9 | Philadelphia Police Department; Officer Eric Guy Kelly, |
10 | Pittsburgh Police Department; Officer Stephen James Mayhle, |
11 | Pittsburgh Police Department; Officer Paul John Rizzo Domenic |
12 | Sciullo II, Pittsburgh Police Department; Trooper Joshua D. |
13 | Miller, Pennsylvania State Police; and Officer Michael Crawshaw, |
14 | Penn Hills Police Department; and |
15 | WHEREAS, Across the United States the week of May 9 through |
16 | 15, 2010, will be recognized as "National Police Week"; and |

1 | WHEREAS, The first National Police Officers' Memorial Day was |
2 | held on May 15, 1982, following a proclamation signed by |
3 | President John F. Kennedy, on October 1, 1962, and has continued |
4 | to be observed annually in memory of those police officers who |
5 | made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty; therefore be it |
6 | RESOLVED, That the Senate honor the memory of the hundreds of |
7 | police officers who gave their lives in the line of duty in this |
8 | Commonwealth; and be it further |
9 | RESOLVED, That the Senate recognize the week of May 9 through |
10 | 15, 2010, as "National Police Week" and May 3, 2010, as "Police |
11 | Officers' Memorial Day" in Pennsylvania. |
