A RESOLUTION

Recognizing the month of November 2009 as "Assistive Technology

2

Awareness Month" in Pennsylvania.

WHEREAS, Pennsylvanians with disabilities have had their

4

lives improved by the availability of assistive technology

5

devices and services; and

6

WHEREAS, Assistive technology and services allow people to

7

live independently and productively in the community of their

8

choice and allow them to work, attend school and engage in

9

hobbies and recreation; and

10

WHEREAS, An assistive technology device is an item, piece of

11

equipment or system that is used to maintain, improve or

12

increase the functional capabilities of persons with

13

disabilities; and

14

WHEREAS, An assistive technology service is a service that

15

assists an individual to select, acquire or use an assistive

16

technology device; and

WHEREAS, Pennsylvania is a leader in the development and

2

implementation of assistive technology programs for its citizens

3

with disabilities and for its older residents who have limited

4

functional capabilities; and

5

WHEREAS, His Excellency, Governor Edward G. Rendell, has

6

proclaimed the month of November 2009 as "Assistive Technology

7

Awareness Month" in Pennsylvania; therefore be it

8

RESOLVED, That the Senate recognize the month of November

9

2009 as "Assistive Technology Awareness Month" in Pennsylvania.
