| A RESOLUTION |
| |
1 | Recognizing the month of November 2009 as "Assistive Technology |
2 | Awareness Month" in Pennsylvania. |
3 | WHEREAS, Pennsylvanians with disabilities have had their |
4 | lives improved by the availability of assistive technology |
5 | devices and services; and |
6 | WHEREAS, Assistive technology and services allow people to |
7 | live independently and productively in the community of their |
8 | choice and allow them to work, attend school and engage in |
9 | hobbies and recreation; and |
10 | WHEREAS, An assistive technology device is an item, piece of |
11 | equipment or system that is used to maintain, improve or |
12 | increase the functional capabilities of persons with |
13 | disabilities; and |
14 | WHEREAS, An assistive technology service is a service that |
15 | assists an individual to select, acquire or use an assistive |
16 | technology device; and |

1 | WHEREAS, Pennsylvania is a leader in the development and |
2 | implementation of assistive technology programs for its citizens |
3 | with disabilities and for its older residents who have limited |
4 | functional capabilities; and |
5 | WHEREAS, His Excellency, Governor Edward G. Rendell, has |
6 | proclaimed the month of November 2009 as "Assistive Technology |
7 | Awareness Month" in Pennsylvania; therefore be it |
8 | RESOLVED, That the Senate recognize the month of November |
9 | 2009 as "Assistive Technology Awareness Month" in Pennsylvania. |
