AN ACT

1

Designating Interstate Route I-84, within the borders of

2

Pennsylvania, as the Fallen Trooper Memorial Highway.

3

The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania

4

hereby enacts as follows:

5

Section 1.  Legislative findings.

6

The General Assembly finds as follows:

7

(1)  The Pennsylvania State Police, created by Governor

8

Samuel W. Pennypacker on May 2, 1905, became the first

9

uniformed police organization of its kind in the United

10

States and a model for other state police agencies throughout

11

the nation.

12

(2)  For more than a century, the Pennsylvania State

13

Police has forged a reputation for law enforcement

14

excellence, with its officers always prepared to give their

15

lives to save others.

16

(3)  The core purpose of the Pennsylvania State Police is

1

to seek justice, preserve peace and improve the quality of

2

life for all.

3

(4)  The core values of the Pennsylvania State Police are

4

honor, service, integrity, respect, trust, courage and duty.

5

(5)  Each trooper swears to "be of service to anyone who

6

may be in danger or distress, and at all times so conduct

7

myself that the honor of the force may be upheld."

8

(6)  On September 2, 1906, the first two Pennsylvania

9

State troopers were killed in the line of duty.

10

(7)  No fewer than 93 Pennsylvania State Troopers have

11

given their lives to protect the citizens of this

12

Commonwealth.

13

(8)  In order to honor the finest law enforcement agency

14

of its kind in the nation and its members that have made the

15

ultimate sacrifice, it is fitting that Interstate Route 84 be

16

officially designated as "Fallen Trooper Memorial Highway."

17

Section 2.  Fallen Trooper Memorial Highway.

18

(a)  Designation.--Interstate Route I-84, within the borders

22

maintain appropriate signs displaying the name of the highway to
