A RESOLUTION

Designating the month of September 2010 as "Alcohol and Drug

2

Addiction Recovery Month" in Pennsylvania.

3

WHEREAS, Effective community-based programs exist for persons

4

with substance use disorders; and

5

WHEREAS, Our communities benefit from awareness of evolving

6

drug abuse trends, addiction treatment options and recovery

7

support services; and

8

WHEREAS, Recovery from alcohol or drug abuse involves

9

affected individuals and family members, friends and

10

communities; and

11

WHEREAS, According to a 2008 national survey, 23.1 million

12

persons 12 years of age or older needed treatment for substance

13

use disorders; and

WHEREAS, Concurrent mental illness was reported among 5.4

2

million adults with substance use disorders; and

3

WHEREAS, For every person seeking addiction treatment, many

4

others need access to available treatment, prevention and

5

wellness resources; and

6

WHEREAS, "National Alcohol and Drug Addiction Recovery

7

Month," September 2010, is being observed with the theme "Join

8

the Voices for Recovery: Now More Than Ever"; and

9

WHEREAS, The House of Representatives encourages Commonwealth

10

residents to learn about substance use disorders, addiction

11

treatment options and recovery processes; therefore be it

12

RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives designate the

13

month of September 2010 as "Alcohol and Drug Addiction Recovery

14

Month" in Pennsylvania.
