INTRODUCED AS NONCONTROVERSIAL RESOLUTION UNDER RULE 35, MARCH 17, 2010  

  

  

  

A RESOLUTION

Designating the month of April 2010 as "Outdoor Heritage Month

2

in the Pennsylvania Alleghenies."

3

WHEREAS, "Outdoor Heritage Month" launches and annually

4

renews a year-long commitment to celebrating and protecting the

5

outdoor heritage of the Pennsylvania Alleghenies; and

6

WHEREAS, Concern for the sustainability of natural resources,

7

global climate change, habitat conservation and pollution

8

reduction is increasing and causing a movement in going green;

9

and

10

WHEREAS, This Commonwealth is a large contributor of many

11

factors affecting environmental conditions worldwide; and

12

WHEREAS, Environmental stewardship, community revitalization

13

and economic vitality are interdependent; and

WHEREAS, Community organizations, agencies and citizens, led

2

by Natural Biodiversity and the Kiski-Conemaugh Stream Team,

3

have come together to recognize the rich outdoor heritage in the

4

Pennsylvania Alleghenies; and

5

WHEREAS, The collaborative efforts of these citizens have

6

resulted in numerous environmental service and learning

7

opportunities in the Pennsylvania Alleghenies, with

8

participating events featured at www.ohmonth.com; and

9

WHEREAS, The 40th anniversary of Earth Day, National Arbor

10

Day, National Environmental Education Week, National Volunteer

11

Week, Children & Nature Awareness Month, National Garden Month

12

and Global Youth Service Day occur this April; and

13

WHEREAS, The United Nations' World Environment Day

14

festivities will begin in North America in the host city of

15

Pittsburgh on Earth Day, April 22, and continue through June 5,

16

2010; and

17

WHEREAS, All citizens of this Commonwealth are encouraged to

18

participate in the educational and service activities occurring

19

in the Pennsylvania Alleghenies and in Pittsburgh this year;

20

therefore be it

21

RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives designate the

22

month of April 2010 as "Outdoor Heritage Month in the

23

Pennsylvania Alleghenies."
