A RESOLUTION

Honoring the Pennsylvania Capitol Police on the occasion of its

2

115th anniversary on March 26, 2010.

3

WHEREAS, The Pennsylvania Capitol Police was established on

4

March 26, 1895, through the signing of enabling legislation

5

under Governor Daniel Hartman Hastings, the 23rd Governor of

6

Pennsylvania; and

7

WHEREAS, The Capitol Police was the first police agency under

8

Commonwealth jurisdiction and is the second oldest state police

9

organization in the nation; and

10

WHEREAS, The Capitol Police is a multifaceted law enforcement

11

entity with varied responsibilities and is charged with

achieving a safe environment free of crime, investigating all

2

crimes committed on State property, protecting and serving

3

employees and visitors while on State property as well as

4

protecting property and grounds throughout the Capitol Complex

5

and at State office buildings in Philadelphia, Pittsburgh and

6

Scranton; and

7

WHEREAS, The Capitol Police accomplishes these services by

8

foot patrol, K-9 patrol or bike or police vehicle patrol; and

9

WHEREAS, The Capitol Police offers training needs for all

10

State officials and employees in bomb threat management, bomb

11

recognition, crime prevention, personal safety and workplace

12

security; and

13

WHEREAS, On July 9, 2005, the Capitol Police became an

14

accredited police department through the Pennsylvania Law

15

Enforcement Accreditation Commission and the Pennsylvania Chiefs

16

of Police Association; therefore be it

17

RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives honor the

18

Pennsylvania Capitol Police on the occasion of its 115th

19

anniversary on March 26, 2010.
