A RESOLUTION

Designating the week of February 22 through 28, 2010, as "FFA

2

Week" in Pennsylvania.

3

WHEREAS, Future Farmers of America, now The National FFA

4

Organization (FFA), has grown from its agricultural beginnings

5

into a broad-spectrum leadership incubator; and

6

WHEREAS, The FFA creed expresses belief in the future of

7

agriculture: "with a faith born not of words but of deeds"; and

8

WHEREAS, In accordance with the FFA motto, members serve

their chapter, community and country by cultivating friendships

2

and planting new ideas and seeds of hope wherever they go:

3

"learning to do, doing to learn, earning to live, living to

4

serve"; and

5

WHEREAS, The FFA State Theme is: "Beyond The Blue"; and

6

WHEREAS, The FFA National Theme is: "Lead Out Loud"; and

7

WHEREAS, FFA in the 21st century welcomes young women and

8

young men with diverse backgrounds, and FFA membership has

9

reached a 24-year record high; and

10

WHEREAS, More than 500,000 FFA members from 50 states, Puerto

11

Rico and the Virgin Islands are learning to be successful

12

leaders in production agriculture, agribusiness, agriscience and

13

other fields; and

14

WHEREAS, Many FFA members live far from working farms but

15

have an interest in related fields like food science, turf

16

management and horticulture; and

17

WHEREAS, FFA members who live in rural areas now represent

18

27% of the national organization; and

19

WHEREAS, Females comprise 37% of total membership and nearly

20

50% of all FFA officer teams; and

21

WHEREAS, Young people across this Commonwealth continue to

22

wear the traditional blue corduroy jacket which distinguishes

23

FFA members; and

24

WHEREAS, State President Molly Walmer of Lebanon represents

25

today's diverse FFA; therefore be it

26

RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives designate the

27

week of February 22 through 28, 2010, as "FFA Week" in

28

Pennsylvania and congratulate the members, advisers and parents

29

involved with this exemplary youth organization.
