INTRODUCED AS NONCONTROVERSIAL RESOLUTION UNDER RULE 35, AUGUST 20, 2009  

  

  

  

A RESOLUTION

Recognizing with sadness the supreme sacrifice of Sergeant

2

Joshua Rimer, who died on July 29, 2009, from wounds

3

sustained when his vehicle was struck by an improvised

4

explosive device while he was courageously serving our nation

5

in Afghanistan, and extending condolences.

6

WHEREAS, Sergeant Joshua Rimer of New Sewickley Township made

7

the supreme sacrifice for his country when he was killed in

8

action when his vehicle was hit by an improvised explosive

9

device in Afghanistan on July 29, 2009; and

10

WHEREAS, Sgt. Rimer, 24, a 2003 graduate of Freedom Area High

School, joined the military right after graduation from high

2

school and spent three years in Iraq on his first tour of duty;

3

and

4

WHEREAS, After re-enlisting for another four years, Sgt.

5

Rimer continued to serve in Iraq until February, when his entire

6

battalion was transferred to Afghanistan; and

7

WHEREAS, Sgt. Rimer was serving with the 82nd Engineer

8

Battalion and traveling in an escort vehicle for a convoy when

9

he was killed by an improvised explosive device; and

10

WHEREAS, Sgt. Rimer, a gunner on one of the escort vehicles,

11

who was due to be discharged in March, was stationed in Fort

12

Carson, Colorado; and

13

WHEREAS, Sgt. Rimer lived with his wife, Annalisa, in

14

Colorado Springs, Colorado; and

15

WHEREAS, Sgt. Rimer earned a Purple Heart during his first

16

tour of duty in Iraq in 2004 after receiving shrapnel wounds to

17

the neck; and

18

WHEREAS, In addition to his wife, Sgt. Rimer is survived by

19

his parents, Donna and Jim Rimer, his sister, Shannon, and his

20

grandparents, Effie Rimer and Russell and Jane Wright; therefore

21

be it

22

RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives recognize with

23

sadness the supreme sacrifice of Sergeant Joshua Rimer, who died

24

July 29, 2009, while courageously serving our nation in

25

Afghanistan; and be it further

26

RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives extend

27

condolences to the wife, parents, sister and grandparents of

28

Sgt. Joshua Rimer.
